What do the Dutch figures say?

  1. Sexually transgressive behavior among young people

    Research into “Sex under 25” shows that:

    Two out of three girls and three out of ten boys aged 13-24 have ever been victims of some form of sexually transgressive behavior, including verbal, physical, etc. Netherlands Youth Institute . Physical sexually transgressive behavior (e.g., unwanted touching, etc.) is less frequent: about 20% of girls report having experienced this at some point. Netherlands Youth Institute 

     


  2. Serious forms (assault/rape etc.)

    In that same study, ~4% of boys and ~20% of girls reported having been "forced to perform sexual acts they did not want" at some point. Netherlands Youth Institute For children under the age of 12, when looking at physical sexual violence (broadly defined), the figures are much lower: for example, in one study, ~5% of girls and ~2% of boys reported having experienced some form of sexual violence (broadly defined) before the age of 12.   3. Child abuse & violence by parent(s) of family members

    According to the "National Prevalence Study on Abuse," approximately 1 in 4 students in the first years of secondary school say they have been a victim of child abuse (physical, neglect, etc.) "at some point in their lives."   4. Perpetrators are often known / family members
